Malaria-free Safaris in South Africa

You have in South Africa the unique opportunity to see animals in their natural habitat and not experience discomfort and anxiety about catching malaria. We recommend this kind of safari for those who are traveling with children, the elderly, pregnant women and anyone who does not want to take anti-malarial drugs for one reason or another. In South Africa there are four areas that can offer a safari for you and your family in a completely safe malaria-free area. These regions include the Garden Route, Eastern Province of South Africa, the Kalahari Desert and the Waterberg region of South Africa’s Northern Province. Kruger Park is also relatively safe in the months of July and August, when the temperatures can drop to zero degrees at night.

Madikwe Game Reserve – experience a genuine safari at this malaria-free Game Park.

Three nights at the Buffalo Ridge Safari Lodge, fly in, guided tour or self drive, can be combined with Cape Peninsula Tour.
Madikwe is one of the largest game reserves in South Africa and is malaria free. Besides many other wildlife species, the Big 5 animals can also be found in the reserve.
The lodge is an eco-tourism partnership between North-West Parks, the Balete Ba Lekgophung Community and the operator, The Madikwe Collection. The community has a 45-year lease to operate a commercial lodge with traversing rights across the reserve. The concept is unique in South Africa as the community owns the development, with substantial benefits accruing back to the community itself.

Prices include luxury accommodation, two game drives per day, all meals daily, welcome drinks and teas & coffees at meals.

The Reserve borders Botswana and is located in North West Province, 90 kilometres north of Zeerust, about 4 hours’ drive from both Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Daily scheduled flights are operated from Johannesburg International Airport to the Madikwe Airstrip with Federal Air / Madikwe Air Charters.
