Here you can request a visit the sea lions. The route continues through a built in mountainous coastal road, the Chapman’s Peak Drive, the long white sandy beach of Noordhoek to the Cape. A unique flora stretches around the path. At the Cape, we walk to the new lighthouse. On the way back we stop at Simon’s Town and visit the penguin colony (entrance fees not included, about 5 Euro pp). If desired, a delicious dinner in an exclusive fish restaurant in Kalk Bay harbor or a visit of the Constantia Glen Constantia Wine Estate. (Overnight Breakfast).
Day 7 The Cape Wine Lands
is the area around Stellenbosch and Franschoek. We drive to the beautiful village of Franschhoek, which is located very near the Drakenstein Mountains and was founded in 1688 by French immigrants, fleeing from the religious persecution of the Huguenots in Europe.
A monument in the city commemorates the arrival of the early settlers, who produced the wine that was very popular with Napoleon, Bismarck and nobles as Edward VII, the Prince of Wales. Here we make a stop for lunch (own expense) and another wine tasting at a winery. Then it’s off to Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in South Africa and the historic heart of the wine region. In 1679 the governor of the Cape Colony, Simon van der Stel noted that the fruitfulness of this long valley on the banks of the Eerste River would be perfect for wine growing. The rest is history, which has been cultivated in this city with care. A good mix of houses in Cape Dutch style, Gregorian and Victorian houses are seen at the Dorp Street, where massive oaks at the original, deep gullies still provide shade. Enjoy to conclude with a wine tasting before returning to Cape Town and to your guest house. (Overnight GH BB).
