The Southern Right Whale frequently visits the local waters of South Africa from June to November. An estimated population of 12,000 are spread out through the Southern Hemisphere, with hundreds visiting Hermanus, the ‘capital of the cape whale coast’ annually. The Southern Right Whale is a baleen whale, meaning they have baleen plates for filtering food from water. These whales can be easily identified by its ‘V’ shaped blow caused when the whale breathes out.

The gorgeous animals can grow to lengths of up to approximately 60 feet (18 meters) and can weigh a staggering 40 tons.

  1. Zoltan

After the bad weather forecast I thought I was not going to see the whales, but then your flexibility made it all happen. Whale mother with cub, great shushi and excellent red wines. Thanks for a long, but pleasant day!
