The Whale watching Hermanus tour starts at your Cape Town hotel. We pick you up at 9:00 and drive along the scenic False Bay coast to Hermanus. The whale watching boat trip will take about 2 to 2.5 hours. During the season from July to November whale sightings are guaranteed.
We use the catamaran only, which provides a much smother ride than the mono hull boat.
The Southern Right Whale (Eubalaena australis)
The Southern Right Whale frequently visits the local waters of South Africa from May – December. An estimated population of 12,000 are spread out through the Southern Hemisphere, visiting the Cape Whale Coast’ annually with hundreds giving birth in Walker Bay and thus making whale watching in Hermanus, the ‘whale watching capital” of South Africa.
The Southern Right Whale is a baleen whale, meaning they have ca. 500 baleen plates in their mouth for filtering food from water. The Southern Right Whale can be easily identified by its ‘V’ shaped blow caused when the whale breathes out.
The gorgeous animals can grow to lengths of up to approximately 60 feet (18 meters) and may weigh a staggering 40 tons.
We drive back to Cape Town on a very scenic road along the False Bay, through wild and remote ravines and a rugged coastline.

Our guide was even 1 hour before the departure time in the hotel, nevertheless we could have breakfast before going off. He explained a lot on the way down the coast. In Hermanus Bay we saw several whales with their calves, they were partly directly in front of us, the captain let the ship just drift. Great, not to mention the many dolphins that appeared next to and in front of the catamaran. The return trip through the inland led us to the wine tasting in a wonderful winery, which is only 30 years. Tasty drops.
Back in Cape Town, Gonzales drove us to Camps Bay, which gave us a wonderful sunset. Then it was safe to the hotel. A wonderful day with an excellent guide. Unforgettable.
