Guided Hiking Tours – Cape Town Table Mountain National Park

From: US$128

Hiking tours on Table Mountain on a beautiful day can be treacherous. Therefore a word of caution to all first time visitors is in order. The famous “Table Cloth”, a dense, cold cloud on top of Table Mountain can appear very fast. Even experienced hikers got lost in these clouds. There is no mobile phone signal in most areas of the Mountain plateau.

The hikes:

  • Silvermine Nature Reserve to Hout Bay Look Out (ca. 4h)  The Silvermine hiking tour offers an opportunity to go swimming in a lake, having lunch in a picknic area and to enjoy stunning views of Hout Bay ( see left pic below ). This is an easy walk in mostly untouched nature.
  • Hiking tour from Kirstenbosch Garden to Mclear’s Beacon on Table Mountain (ca. 5h – 6h). This hiking tour offers an easy start at Kirstenbosch Garden (entrance fee R80 not incl.), gets a bit steeper in some places and leads to Mclear’s Beacon on Table Mountain. With 1086m is Mclear’s Beacon the highest point on Table Mountain. From here we can either continue to the cable car station and go down by cable car (about R 120 pp plus taxi ) or walk back to Kirstenbosch Garden. This hike requires some fitness and hiking shoes.
  • Lion’s Head (ca. 3h)  An adventurous walk, but it is well worth while. The view encompasses the harbour, the Twelve Apostles mountain range, Camps Bay, Table Mountain, Devil’s Peak, Signal Hill and the Cape Flats.
  • Table Mountain Top Direct This tour starts at the High Level road and ends on Table Mountain. Rather steep, requires some fitness, duration up hill is ca. 2.5 hours. We drive down with the cable car (Ticket R120 not incl).
  • Amphi TheaterKalk Bay area. This beautiful hike takes us through different vegetation and even to a hidden forest. 360° views from False Bay to the Atlantic Ocean. Duration including drive from Cape Town approx. 5 hours.
