Lake Jozini – the only destination for Tiger Fishing in South Africa
Lake Jozini near Pongola in northern KwaZulu-Natal is the only lake in South Africa that offers sport-fishing for the ferociously fighting tiger fish. It is the southern most extremity of the infamous Tiger Fish population (Hyrocynus Vittatus) due to the hot summer temperatures and moderate winter climate.
Good sizes have been caught in the Lake where the official record is 8.3kg. Boats can be hired including a guide who skippers the boat and shows you the know-how and hot spots on the Lake.
Surrounded by the Pongola Game Reserve and the Kings Reserve on the Northern Swaziland shores, and situated in the Zululand Bushveld, the area offers excellent game and bird viewing (about 400 species).
While in the bush, view wildlife’s unique encounters, and when on the water, either be a quiet spectator soaking in the busy BirdLife and animal activity on the water’s edge; or feel the thrill when a toothy tiger fish grabs your bait at serious speeds and dances away with acrobatic agility!
